Just Passing Through: "Threads - Take Me Home 糸 - テイク・ミー・ホーム" Show in Tama City, Tokyo, Japan

先月、5月末の東京、多摩市、関戸公民館ヴィータ・コミューネ・ギャラリーの個展、「Threads - Take Me Home 糸 - テイク・ミー・ホーム」　に来てくださった皆さん、どうもありがとうございました！短い間でしたが、長年の友達、家族、また誘われて来てくださった方々、たまたま寄ってくださったみなさんのおかげで、同窓会のような、また良い出会いの場となるような楽しいショーになりました。またこのショーのためにご協力して下さった皆さん、ありがとうございました。

ショーでは私のライフワークともなっている「糸と糸が出会う時」と、ギフトシリーズから「見えないループ」を展示しました。ギャラリースペースは予想通り、私のインスタレーションに願っていた通りのサイズと色で、設備も理想的でした。

このギャラリーがある、京王線、聖蹟桜ヶ丘駅周辺は、私の夫が育った場所です。街の様子はその頃とはかなり変わっていたようですが、私たちファミリーはこの場所を訪れて、その当時の様子に思いを馳せました。この街はジブリアニメの「耳をすませば」の舞台にもなったことでもよく知られています。その主題歌のカントリーロードにインスパイアされ、故郷を訪れた私たちの背景に合わせて、ショーのタイトルをつけました。私達ファミリーにとって、また私の作品にとっても素敵な１ページとなったことを感謝しています。

Thank you so much to everyone who came to my show, “Threads - Take Me Home,” held at the Vita Commune Gallery in the Sekido Community Center in Tama City, Tokyo, at the end of last month! Although it was a short time, thanks to my longtime friends, family, those who came through connections, and everyone who just happened to drop by, it turned into a fun show that felt like a class reunion and a delightful place to meet new people. Thank you to those who helped make this show possible as well.

At this show, I exhibited A Thread XA Thread, which has become my life's work, and A Loop Unseen from my Gift Series. As expected, the gallery space was exactly the size and colors I had hoped for my installation, and the facilities were great!

This area around Seiseki-Sakuragaoka Station on the Keio Line is where my husband grew up. Although the neighborhood has changed quite a bit since then, our family visited the area and reminisced about how it used to be.

This town is also well known as the setting for the Studio Ghibli anime "Whisper of the Heart". Inspired by the theme song, “Country Road,” I chose the show title to reflect the background of our visit to this hometown. I am grateful that it became a cherished page in the story of our family and in my own work.
