Sojourning Threads at Mid-America Arts Alliance in Kansas City

I had a blast in Kansas City on the September First Friday!  Many threads were added to my piece.  I had several good conversations, too.  I am so thankful to Mid-America Arts Alliance, for inviting me to do this exhibit and for their generous support!

I like to see people taking photos of my work.

I did not have much time to see the city this time, but at least I could see a little bit of the skyscrapers from the Baltimore Street in front of the gallery.

After they closed the gallery, they opened all the front window screens for the people to see it from the outside.  It was pretty beautiful with the lighted space in the dark.  The height of the installations is about 16' this time, which is the highest orientation that I got for these two pieces so far.

I am thrilled to know that Alice Thorson, the editor of KC Studio Magazine and a well known Kansas City's art critic for many years, picked my show as one of the 15 events from many other art events that happened in Kansas City on this First Friday.  KC Studio Editor's Picks

If you are in Kansas City area, this will be on display till September 20 by appointment.

Remain in LIght

This month, I had an opportunity to be involved in a group show in Wichita.   The title of the show was "Remain in Light.'    It was an immersive installation and performance art show using light as a medium organized by Meghan Miller and Hallie Linnebur.   The show was created by collaborative team efforts by eight artists.  The live music was provided by Golden Living Room.

Installing the Show in Kansas City

Installing my show at Mid-America Arts Alliance in Crossroads Arts District in Kansas City went well last week.  Moving around a 14 ft high ladder looked very hard with my spider's-web-like pieces, especially in their space surrounded by beautiful glass windows.  It turned out great thanks to the excellent help of Jessica and Luther!

In this show,l I am showing two installations, "A Thread X A Thread" and "Gift," and some paintings.  I hope many threads are added to my piece,  "A Thread X A Thread" again.

I like how the elevation of the space enables me to see my pieces from the bottom and the top.

The First Friday reception is September 1st.  My works are ready to meet many art-loving people at Crossroads Arts District in Kansas City for the first time.

Checking Out the Space in Kansas City

I went to Kansas City the other day to check out the space where I am going to exhibit my work in August and September.  It is at Mid-America Arts Alliance, M-AAA, on Baltimore Avenue, which is in the Crossroads Art District.  M-AAA is a non-profit organization and they do invitation shows only.

M-AAA is located within a walking distance from the Union Station.

Here is the space that I am going to show my work. It is like a atrium at the entrance of the building, facing the Baltimore Avenue.  It has two levels and staircases on the both flanks.  The facade has big glass windows and doors.

I am very excited to be invited to exhibit my work in this beautiful space.  Their invitation was totally unexpected to me. This is going to be my first show in Kansas City!

Photos from "Movements of Threads" Show at CityArts (2)

My solo exhibition "Movements of Threads" ended last week.  The show was visited by many people in City of Wichita.  Here are some more photos from the show.

These are the photos taken right after the opening reception.  The collaboration with the musicians was an exciting adventure to me.  A classical chamber music piece "Sojourning Threads" was composed based on my installations.  I feel totally humbled.   We are hoping this piece will be performed in future exhibitions and recitals.  Oboe: Cindy Crawford Thompson  Viola: Kay Neal Buskirk  Double bass: Daniel Racer  Composer: Daniel Racer  Photo credit: Miles Thompson

More threads were added.

"A Thread X A Thread" in the front and "Akari" in the back.  I made "Akari" in 2010 originally, and revised it for this show.

I am excited that several paintings found their new home.

It was a magical space creating depth with the gray walls and reflections and shadows on dark floors.  It was sad to take down the show, but hopefully, I will do similar shows at different places in near future.  For now, good-bye to "Movements of Threads," and thank you to everybody who made this show happen.

Photos from "Movements of Threads" Show at CityArts (1)

Thank you to those of you who have already visited my show at CityArts!  I have been enjoying reading your comments on my guest book.  I hope all my friends in this area can visit this show before it is going to disappear forever.  I am going to share more photos from the show here.
