Two Shows in Japan

I am expecting two shows in Japan at the end of the year.  I am going to show the same piece, "A Thread X (Meets) A Thread", but these are quite different settings.   If you are in these areas, hope you can stop by and add some threads!

One is at Chiba Port Tower Shimin Gallery in Chiba.

Another one is at TANADA Piece Gallery in Kyotanabe, Kyoto.

Taking Down the show "Beyond the Surface"

I took down the show “Beyond the Surface” a couple of days ago.  I am so thankful that many people came to the show and some paintings found their new home.  The gallery had 2,500 sq. ft and it was the biggest space I have ever had for my solo exhibition.   It reminds me this kind of show never happens without other people’s help.  Special thanks to John Oehm and Trisha Coates, the gallery directors of E. B. White Gallery.  I also want to say a big thank you to the art students of Butler Community College who helped me with installing and de-installing the show and taking turns to be the attendants in the gallery.

Several people asked me how long it took to make these works.  I didn’t count it exactly, but I spent about 2 months to make blue piece "Tumbled, Dried, and Softened" and  6 months to make the yellow piece “Bloom”.  The threads got tangled a lot and that was the hardest part.  Also, I made many other elements to go with this piece, but ended up not using many of them.  It was a good lesson to learn that simplifying the image works better sometimes.

I will post some videos next time.
