Peru Pt. 3 Exploring More About Museo Convento de Santo Domingo - Qorikancha

I felt that I needed to learn more about this place, Museo Convento de Santo Domingo - Qoricancha, where I was blessed to have my art show, so I participated in a guided tour.

This ruin's site is said to be the most important temple of the Inca Empire, with stone walls so intricately layered that it is said that even a razor blade cannot pass through them. It is also said that these walls were once covered in gold. I can only imagine how dazzling they must have been. 

私のアートのショーをさせてもらえているこのサントドミンゴ修道院美術館 ーコリカンチャという場所を、より知るために、ガイド付きのツアーに参加させてもらいました。インカ帝国の最も重要な寺院と言われているこの遺跡、カミソリの歯も通さないと言われるほど、緻密に重ねられた石の壁。かつてはこの壁は金で覆われていたというので、どのように眩かったことか。

In this place, Inca ruins and Spanish colonial architecture coexist, and the cultures of the people who have lived here for a long time are blended. This overlaps with my own reality, as someone who is from Japan but lives in Kansas, USA. 　

この場所では、インカ時代の遺跡とスペイン植民地時代の建築が共存し、ここに長く暮らしてきた人々の文化が調和して融合しています。これは日本出身でありながら、アメリカ合衆国カンザス州に住んでいる私の現実とも重なる部分があります。

Climb the narrow spiral staircase from the second floor to reach the bell tower. From here, you can look down on the roofs of the Convento de Santo Domingo and see the city of Cusco from different angles. 

２階から狭い螺旋階段を昇ると鐘楼に出ます。ここからはコリカンチャの屋根を見下ろすことができ、またクスコの街を違う角度から見ることができます。　

When I looked at the exhibition on the second floor, my work was surrounded by many visitors. This historic site is one of the most visited landmarks in Cusco, and during the time I was there, I had the joy of meeting people from many different countries. It was truly special to connect with so many visitors from around the world at such a beautiful place.  Thank you, everyone, for stopping by and experiencing my piece.  Thank you also for giving me permission to post these photos. 

その後、2階の展示場をのぞいてみると、私の作品が多くの人の囲まれていました。 この歴史的な場所は、市内でも最も訪問者の多い名所のひとつで、私がそこにいた間だけでも、多くの国から来た人々と出会うことができました。 こんな美しい場所で、世界中から集まった多くの人々とつながることができたのは、本当に特別な経験でした。  皆様、足を止めてくださり、作品を鑑賞してくださったこと、またこれらの写真を投稿する許可をくださったことに、心より感謝申し上げます。

Peru Pt. 2 Inauguration of the Show “UN HILO X UN HILO” at Museo Convento De Santo Domingo ー Qorikancha クスコサントドミンゴ修道院美術館コリカンチャでの個展オープニング

Here are some photos from the inauguration of “UN HILO X UN HILO”　at Museo de Convento De Santo Domingo ー Qorikancha.  Thank you to those of you who came to the show! 

It was a lively and unforgettable night with music and dance, visiting beautiful people in Cusco, Peru! The event began with a greeting from Father Isaac and a talk by Mario in English and Spanish. I was able to do a brief greeting in Spanish, explain the work in English with translation to Spanish by Mario, and also in Japanese. 

サントドミンゴ修道院美術館、コリカンチャ  での「UN HILO X UN HILO」のオープニングイベントの写真です。ご来場いただいた皆様、ありがとうございました！  

音楽とダンスに満ちた活気ある一夜で、ペルー・クスコの美しい人々との出会いが忘れられない体験となりました。  イベントは、イサーク神父の挨拶と、マリオさんによる英語とスペイン語でのトークで始まりました。私自身、スペイン語で簡単な挨拶をし、マリオさんのスペイン語への翻訳を交えながら英語で作品を説明し、日本語でも説明しました。

My installation "A Thread X A Thread" centers around the themes of relationship and home.  For the opening reception, I wanted to create a sense of "home" for the local people in Cusco through traditional music and costumes.  I discussed these things with Curator Mario by phone ahead of time. He helped bring this vision to life by selecting and coordinating musical performances that resonated with the themes of my work.  Thanks to the participation of the music performers,  I am so grateful the inauguration turned out to be much more lively and richer than I had expected! 

私のインスタレーション "A Thread X A Thread "は、人間関係と「ホーム」をテーマにしています。 オープニング・レセプションでは、伝統的な音楽や衣装を通して、クスコの地元の人々にとっての「ホーム、故郷」の感覚を作り出したいと思いました。 キュレーターのマリオさんとは、事前に電話でこうしたことを話し合いました。彼は、私の作品のテーマと共鳴する音楽パフォーマンスを選び、コーディネートすることで、このビジョンを実現する手助けをしてくれました。音楽パーフォーマーの参加のおかげで、オープニングレセプションが思っていたよりもずっと生き生きとした楽しいものになったことを感謝します。

This group, Ayliu Apu WAyra, is dedicated to preserving traditional Sikuri music, deeply rooted in local culture and community.  I absolutely loved their music!  

このAyliu Apu WAyraというグループは、地元の文化とコミュニティに深く根ざした伝統的なシクリ音楽の保存に尽力しています。 彼らの音楽、とても気に入りました。

We also had beautiful Nancy.  Nancy is a music performer of Quechua descent. Quechua is an indigenous people and language group native to the Andes region of South America.  She sang while playing the accordion, and she also performed in interaction with my thread installation.  As soon as her music began, the audience started dancing, and they invited each person into the circle of dancing. Here, dance is a traditional practice from early childhood. It seems completely natural for the body to start moving.  I felt that this form resembled the process of creating my own work, taking threads and adding them to larger elements. Just like threads are connected to one another, when we dance together, our hearts naturally become connected.  Dancing is such a wonderful thing, isn't it? In this chaotic and separated world we live in, we need more dancing! 

こちらはナンシーです。 ナンシーは南米アンデス地方の先住民族であり、言語グループであるケチュア系の音楽パフォーマーです。 彼女はアコーディオンを弾きながら歌い、私の糸のインスタレーションに合わせたパフォーマンスも披露してくれました。 彼女の音楽が始まるとすぐに観客は踊り始め、一人一人を踊りの輪の中に招き入れていきました。ここでは、ダンスは幼児期から練習している伝統的なものだそうです。音楽が聞こえると身体が動き出すのは、まったく自然なことのようです。 このダンスの形は、糸を取り、より大きなエレメントに加えていく、私自身の作品制作のプロセスに似ていると感じました。糸と糸がつながっているように、一緒に踊れば自然と心もつながっていく。 ダンスはとても素晴らしいものですね！私たちが生きているこの混沌とした分裂した世界、もっとダンスが必要なのだと思います！

My entire family from Kansas came to this show in Cusco. I thought it would be impossible to get together because of the distance, but I am so grateful that everyone was able to adjust their vacations to come and support this special show, my first in South America. This evening was truly an unforgettable time. 

そしてこのクスコのショーにはなんと、カンザスから家族全員が来てくれました。遠いので集まるのは無理だろうと思っていたところ、みんなが休暇を合わせてこの私の南米初となる特別なショーのサポートをしてくれたことを心から感謝します。この夜は本当に忘れられない時となりました。
