Here is the flyer for the event.

Ages 5 and up

Limited to 18 participants

All materials provided - no experience necessary.

It looks like the event is already sold out!  You can check the library if there are any cancellations. I'm looking forward to having fun!

Feeling deeply honored and humbled to receive the Excellent Artist Award at the 1st Wichita Asian Association Gala Awards on Thursday night. It was a heartwarming evening at the Wichita Art Museum.

The Opening Reception at the Andover Public Library

Thank you to the Andover Public Library for the beautiful opening reception! I was very happy to see dear friends and make new friends, some from nearby, some from far away, coming one after another. I couldn’t take photos with everyone, but thank you so much for coming!

This is my first time showing my work in Andover, and also my first time to exhibit in a library. It feels happy and fulfilled to be surrounded by many books—even the giant ones! Just like I imagined, my artwork "A Thread X A Thread" looks even more like a breeze in this space, with the light blue ceiling and the light shining through.

Special thanks go to Erica Kim, the art coordinator at the Andover Public Library. She conceived of this exhibit and worked diligently with me from planning to installation.

I’m also so grateful for the constant support of my family—it always means the world.

This installation will be on view until June 12. We are also planning a workshop in May in conjunction with the show!

Place: Andover Public Library, 1511 Central, Andover, KS
Dates: April 17 - June 12, 2025

Workshop: May 19, 2025, 5:30 pm - 7 pm

Upcoming Show at the Andover Public Library

The next destination for my installation "A Thread X A Thread ~ Treasuring the Moment" is Andover, Kansas.  It will be installed at the Andover Public Library for about two months.  If you're in the area, please stop by and add more threads!

The photo in this announcement is from last year's exhibit at the McKnight Art Center at WSU.  After seeing that show, the Andover Public Library invited me to exhibit the work.  I'm grateful that each opportunity seems to lead to the next - like a thread connecting one place to another.

Treasuring the Moment ~ A Thread X A Thread

Place:   Andover Public Library 1511 E Central Ave, Andover, KS, 67002
Date: April 17 - June 12, 2025
Opening reception: Thursday, April 17, 5-7 pm (Kids' Zone in the library)

Here is the description on Andover Public Library's Facebook page.

Experience the power of connection through thread. In this evolving installation, Japanese-born artist Chiyoko Myose reflects on the beauty of human encounters and the quiet moments that tie us together. Each knot symbolizes a treasured meeting, woven into a larger story of belonging and memory.
This piece has traveled to over 20 locations across the U.S. and Japan—now on view in Andover before continuing its journey to Peru.
Come explore, pause, and reflect—you may see your own story in the threads.
Join us for the Opening Reception: April 17th, 5PM-7PM in the Kids area
This display will be up from April 17th-June 12th

Chiyoko Myose, Artist Statement
As someone from another country, I often feel like a new girl in a new school—relationships in a new place are never taken for granted. I may not connect with everyone I meet, but I treasure each encounter, knowing that moment might be the only one. I believe that valuing these moments can lead to peace between people and a sense of "home."
In this installation, I use multiple threads to express the idea of connection. In Japanese, verbs related to threads—tying, cutting, tangling—symbolize human relationships. I began this piece in 2013 in Wichita, Kansas, knotting two threads together. Each knot represents a treasured encounter.
Viewers are invited to tie their own threads to the piece. I hope this small action becomes a moment to reflect on their own relationships.
The work, like a breeze, has traveled and gathered threads across 20 locations. It remains “in progress,” continuing to meet new people and form new connections. After Andover, it will travel to Peru, carrying your threads forward.

Kansas Art Guild Meeting - Visiting Artist for Judge and Presentation

Last week, I was invited to a meeting of the Kansas Art Guild (KAG), an artist group in Kansas, and had the honor of serving as both judge and presenter. This group was formed in 1977 and was initially for local artists in Wichita. It has now grown to include many members who live many miles away from Wichita. They meet monthly at MarkArts in Wichita for business meetings and judging of artwork. I believe there were about 40 or 50 people in attendance at this meeting.

It was not easy to judge participating pieces. It was a great learning experience.

While many of the other visiting presenters share their techniques, I used a PowerPoint presentation to introduce my artistic journey. It is always a joy to share my story and talk about my work. I hope I will have opportunities like this more often.

Qorikancha is the most important temple in the historic Inca Empire, and blended with the Seventeenth-century Santo Domingo Convent. It is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Cusco.
Centro Cultural Peruano Japonés is the cultural center celebrating Peruvian-Japanese(Nikkei) heritage in the communiy of 200,000+.

Both places are unique and have cultural significance.  I am really looking forward to the shows! I am also considering in participating other art-related activities, too.
