Pinning Day at The City Girl Farm

     I finished making the elements for the collaboration with sculpture/furniture artists/artisans in Kansas City.  I went to the studio of The City Girl Farm for the pinning process the other day!  

     Sally, Carly and I worked together to pin my kimono and obi 'feathers' onto their chicken footstool armatures.  Their feathers and red combs are going to be added later.  To me, this mixture represents cultural hybridity which I face in every day life. Can't wait to see the finished work!   These chickens are going to be in their show called "When Feathers Come Together: A Global Chicken Collections" in April with five other artists living in various parts of the world.  

　カンザスシティのシティガールファームのスタジオに行ってきました。サリーとカリーと３人で、チキンの形をした家具の土台に私の着物と帯の生地の「羽」を付ける作業完了。あとはシティガールファーム側の羽と赤いとさかを付けていただくことになっています。この混ぜ合わせは、私にとって、日々現実として向き合っているカルチュラル・ハイブリディティを表しています。どんな完成品になるのでしょう。楽しみです。こちらの作品は、４月に行われる「羽が集まる時－グローバル・チキン・コレクション」というショーにて、世界の色々な場所に住んでいる他の５人の作家さんの作品とともに展示されます。

     I am so grateful for the incredible year as the featured artist for the KMUW (Wichita's NPR) 2021 Artist Series!  Their 2021 events have ended and now the video that they made for the show is available to watch on YouTube.  You can see my selected installations, collaborations and solo exhibitions over the last 10 years all at once.  Hope you will check it out.

　２０２１年度KMUW (ウィチタ市の米国公共ラジオ局）のアーティストシリーズのアーティストに選んで頂いたこの一年、色々と経験させていただけて本当に感謝でした。ショーのためにKMUWが制作して下さったビデオがYoutubeでもご覧になれるようになりました。過去１０年間の私の主なインスタレーション作品、コラボレーション、個展風景などが一気に観られるようになっています。どうぞお楽しみ下さい。

Collaboration with Furniture Artists/Artisans

    I have done several collaborations with other forms of art such as classical music, contemporary dance, short film, and even with engineering. Right now, I'm working on a collaboration with sculpture/furniture artists/artisans in Kansas City area.  This is going to be in a group show in Kansas City in spring.  I'm using vintage kimono fabrics and obi fabrics.  This particular obi fabric is ca.1930 according to the seller of it.  Fun! 

  今までクラシック音楽、コンテンポラリーダンス、短編フィルム、エンジニアリング等々、色んなコラボレーションをやってきましたが、今、カンザスシティのアーティスト、職人さん達による「家具」とのコラボレーション作品を作っています。この春、カンザス・シティでのグループ展にて展示されます。ヴィンテージの着物、帯の生地を使っています。この帯の生地は、売り主さんによると、１９３０年頃のものだそうです。いい作品になりますように。

 

Final Two Weeks at KMUW Artist Series Exhibition - Thank You!

Only a couple of weeks left for my show at KMUW! Thank you so much to KMUW for giving me this opportunity to showcase my work for so long! I am so grateful to those of you who visited the show in this difficult time and who gave wonderful new home for my work. I hope you can check it out before it ends, but please be sure to stay safe. Front Porch Project

Exciting news!

                     

My daughter Sarah and I are selected as one of the creatives for the project called Front Porch Project founded by Downtown Wichita next year.  Downtown Wichita received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Knight Foundation Fund at the Wichita Community Foundation for the project.  The overview of the project is here.  Front Porch Project Wichita. We are very excited to be a part of this project as a team and to contribute to the Wichita community through art!

We're paired with Old Mill Tasty Shop, a Wichita's beloved restaurant.   The restaurant is located in the middle of downtown on the Douglas Street.  This street is called Douglas Design District, which is a home to over 500 locally owned businesses with an emphasis on design.  Lately, a lot of murals were added in this area including the one by Sarah and her friend.  The restaurant is family-owned and it's like a family for the people in Wichita.  The food is all homemade and excellent. It opened in 1932 and they are cerebrating 90 years next year.  We are happy to cerebrate with them through this Front Porch Project!

"Fall Color Field" Show at Reuben Saunders Gallery

      I have one piece included in a show at Reuben Saunders Gallery, Wichita, KS this month, which starts from tomorrow, Nov. 5th.  The title of the show is "Fall Color Field" and it is a group exhibition with 20 artists.  I took a quick glance at the show yesterday.  It is a beautiful show!
