Artist Statement for the Show, "From Memory to Memory"

Artist Statement for the show From Memory To Memory

For the last several years, I have been making artworks under the same theme - my search for the place to fully call “home.”  In this show, you will see my journey and endeavor to explore some different ways to express this same thought of mine from various approaches, using various mediums, different modes of rendering, and different disciplines.  Whether it is two dimensional or three dimensional, whether it is abstract or representational, you may find some common aspects in these works since I have been using the same visual language that I developed.  New work ideas arose from my previous works as the base.  Some works have formed into a body of work, some have been placed between bodies of work, and some ideas are still evolving.  This show is my first attempt to share this artistic journey publicly from the beginning stage till today.  It looks like moving from a memory to another memory.    Chiyoko Myose

In this show at the Fiber Studio, my old friend of lozenge composition is coming back.
The painting  on the left is "Iridescence #63", 2017, and the one on the right is "The Hiding Place",2009.  It is interesting that they have 8 years between them, but the content is pretty much the same.

Also, some drawings are included in this show.  Probably most of you have never seen these works before.  The face in the first drawing is me as a young girl.  My daughter helped me by becoming the model.  It is a good memory!

Opening Reception and Artist Talk Event for "Origami Cranes in Blue"

I was so overwhelmed by the support and love of the people who came to the opening reception for my show "Origami Cranes in Blue" on Final Friday last week!  When I am thanked by people as they say they were encouraged by seeing my work, I feel so humbled and so happy!

For those of you who may not have noticed that the piece had sound effect, here is a little video clip.  When it's quiet, you should be able to hear the sound of an ocean and cranes crying.  If not, there must be something wrong with the audio setting.  Please ask the gallery people about it.

I was also given an opportunity to talk about the work at Art for Lunch artist talk event this week.  I really appreciated the many meaningful questions and comments from the audience.  Actually, it was my fourth art-related public speaking event this year.  I am glad I didn't faint at any of them!

Installing "Origami Cranes in Blue" in Steckline Gallery

I worked on installing my origami cranes in the Steckline Gallery of Newman University for the last three days.  My cranes are ready to meet you at the opening reception today from 5 -7 p.m.  I encourage you to wear clothes with white color in them!

Here are some photos of the process of installing the piece.

You're welcome to be inside the piece to experience it and take photos.  It is dark, so make sure that you hold your camera tight.  Feel free to post the photos on your SNS.  When you do that, please tag my name "chiyokomyose" and the title of the work "origamicranesinblue".   Thank you.

Photos from "Sojourning Threads" Performance at Oklahoma Contemporary

I received professionally taken photos at the music event from Oklahoma Contemporary the other day.  At this event, the chamber music piece "Sojourning Threads" composed by Daniel Racer based on my four installations was performed.  The visitors were encouraged to walk around the space looking at the installations while listening to the music.

The show ended successfully with many visitors and tours.  Several events and summer camp activities happened inspired by my show.  Thank you again to Oklahoma Contemporary for choosing and hosting my show and to the people of Oklahoma City for visiting my show and contributing to my work by adding threads.  My piece has become even more meaningful.
